Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi

As tradition dictates, for the Feast of Saint Francis a Region—on behalf of all Italy—offers the oil for the votive lamp that burns before the Saint’s tomb, in the crypt of the Basilica that bears his name. This year it is the turn of Abruzzo. The mayor of the regional capital—L’Aquila—will light the oil that fuels the flame of the votive lamp during the solemn Eucharistic celebration held in the Upper Church of the Basilica of Saint Francis, broadcast live on RAI1.
